Introduction

It is of critical importance for universities to record activity data in a comprehensive manner and to reflect the results of the data obtained in their institutional policies and practices by analyzing the institution's strengths, weaknesses and factors that are open to development. This issue is considered among the important requirements that institutions are expected to fulfill in international practices and also in quality practices in higher education in our country. In this context, it is also known that the world's leading higher education institutions have been resolute in implementing practices to evaluate the annual performance of their academic staff under different dimensions for many years, transforming them into institutional culture.

According to the provisions of various legislation such as Article 42 of the Higher Education Law No. 2547, the Public Financial Management and Control Law No. 5018 and the practices of the Higher Education Quality Board, the relevant institutions have been requested to conduct annual performance evaluations for the academic staff of higher education institutions in recent years. In this context, in order to fulfill the duties assigned to the institution with the provisions of the relevant legislation and to properly determine the strategies that will enable the efficient and effective management of institutional resources, the "Gazi University Academic Performance Evaluation Directive" was accepted with the decision of our University Senate dated 02.09.2021 and numbered 2021/208 for the annual performance evaluation of the academic staff of our university.

The Rectorate Academic Performance Evaluation Commission and Department Academic Performance Evaluation Commissions have been established to carry out the assigned tasks in accordance with the relevant provisions of the “Gazi University Academic Performance Evaluation Directive”.

The Academic Performance Evaluation Commission meetings held under the presidency of the relevant Vice Rector has determined the Gazi University Academic Performance Evaluation Implementation Procedures and Principles.

The Academic Performance Evaluation Process Management System, which works coherently with the Academic Data Management System (AVESİS), which is actively used in all academic units of Gazi University, effectively determines the productivity performance of the institution by recording the annual performance evaluation processes via an evidence-based database.
